Breaks and Cracks
ISSUE NO.5
What’s up, Strong Humans. I’m Danielle, your certified Claystylist. Welcome to my corner of clay, Black hair, and building an artist’s life.
Behind the Roots
What’s the difference between a crack and a break?
According to the dictionary, a crack is a narrow split in something, while a break is a complete separation. One is damage. The other is destruction.
In pottery, though, they’re both equally annoying.
This week, I found myself staring at pieces that had cracked and others that had broken completely.
The funny thing is that whether it's a crack or a break, the feeling is often the same. You spend hours shaping, trimming, and glazing a piece only to discover that clay has its own plans.
The good news? Not every crack means the end, and not every break is beyond repair. In my new YouTube video, watch how I manage to save months of work.
New Growth is a peek at what I’m excited to explore in the studio this week.
1.CUSTOM ORDERS ~ My books are now open and accepting custom orders! There are so many ideas I want to try and explore with hair, and if you have been looking for that one of a kind piece. Click here. I want to hear your ideas!
2.CHI TOWN TRIP ~ I was able to sneak away for a little friends trip to Chicago, and honestly, it was everything I needed. There's something about a change of scenery that can reset your perspective, even if it's only for a few days.
3.BANTU BADDIES ~ I can't get over how these beauties turned out. I've been keeping things pretty simple with black, brown, and terracotta, but I'm excited to play around with more colors in the future and see where they take me.
